Hackers/Founders: Scott Chacon/GitButler
Hey H/F’ers – are you still there? We are back and ready to connect, share knowledge, and drink some beers with you again and this time with our friends at GitButler! We are thrilled to welcome back our friend Scott Chacon to the stage.
Who is Scott?
Scott Chacon is the co-founder of GitHub and now co-founder of GitButler, a next generation version control client, based in Berlin. Scott helped grow GitHub from 4 cofounders to 450 employees over 8 years, eventually being acquired by Microsoft for $7.5 billion. Scott is also the author of Pro Git, published by Apress and found online at git-scm.com. In unrelated news, he holds a WSET Level 3 certification in Wines and Spirits and owns a dog rescue outside of Berlin.
What will Scott talk about?
Open Source 2.0: The Text Editor’s Last Laugh
Scott will explore the future of programming and open source in the age of Large Language Models (LLMs), where text editors may become as extinct as the dodo. Imagine a world where software development is more like a casual chat with a clever AI assistant than a tedious typing marathon. New programming languages and frameworks will emerge, optimized for LLM generation and large-scale testing. We will also cover the inevitable, revolutionary new path of open source in an AI world. With a sprinkle of humor and a dash of optimism, Scott will discuss how we can help the community transition towards a more efficient, streamlined, and dare we say, amusing future of software development.
