Aspen Institute: Digital Dish – Digitalpolitik als Machtfrage

On September 23, 2025, Aspen Germany in cooperation with Telefónica will host the next Digital Dish event on the topic of, “From Vision to Reality: Digital Policy as a Question of Power.”
Germany’s digital transformation continues to face structural challenges, including slow progress in government digitalization, delayed fiber expansion, and a limited role in shaping global AI initiatives. In this legislative period, the federal government has begun to reset its digital strategy. The creation of the Federal Ministry for Digital Affairs and State Modernization marks a step toward stronger coordination. Projects like the planned “Germany Stack” cloud platform and the AI partnership with Nvidia represent early signals of progress.
At the same time, it is clear that digital policy affects all ministries and sectors. The key question now is how to turn strategic goals into real political capacity for action. In this Digital Dish, Aspen Germany will bring together voices from politics, academia, and industry to explore how Germany can move from a reactive to a proactive force in digital policy, both within Europe and in transatlantic relations. The discussion will focus on future challenges in digital security, emerging technology alliances, and the broader dynamics of global competition in digital governance. Together, we will examine how technological capability will shape political strength and agenda in the years ahead.
This event will take place in German and under Chatham House Rule.
