SUMMARY:Aspen: Tech and the Worker
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n \nAspen Germany, in partnership with Microsoft and the Representation to the Federation of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, cordially invites you to a virtual discussion on\n„Tech and the Worker: Opening up the Policymaker’s Toolbox“\nwith opening remarks by\nAlmut Möller\nState Secretary and Representative of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg to the Federal Government, the European Union and for Foreign Affairs\nand inputs from\nRaumesh Akbari\nState Senator, Tennessee General Assembly\nRoy Bahat \nHead of Bloomberg Beta; former Commissioner on the California Governor’s Future of Work Commission\nAnja Piel\nMember of the Executive Board, German Trade Union Confederation (DGB)\nmoderated by\nShelly Steward \nDirector, Future of Work Initiative, The Aspen Institute\nFor the final event of its workshop series on “Overcoming the Conundrums of the Great Decoupling,” Aspen Germany and its partners are pleased to host a transatlantic discussion focusing on the specific policies that governments should consider in light of increased AI automation and the growing demand for technical skills. Are new forms of taxation (e.g., robot taxes) and regulation necessary to redesign the social safety net to capture and equitably distribute tech’s productivity gains across society? Are schemes like universal basic income (UBI) helpful potential offsets? Are other systems of labor market resilience helpful (e.g., midlife voucher systems; incentives for self-employment and creative and community-centered endeavors)? Has COVID-19 expedited these processes of change in a productive manner? This final event builds on the previous three sessions in which we explored lessons from past industrial revolutions, rethinking the social contract, and automation & the education cycle.\nIf you would like to register for this online event, please click here ( http://crm.aspeninstitute.de/civicrm/event/register?reset=1&id=5279&cid=31772&cs=49bd0d7c81caa987031b3b1310e372ef_1618323780_2016 ).\n \nPlease note: Registered participants will receive the dial-in details and link to join this discussion in the registration confirmation and via e-mail ahead of the event. This discussion will be on the record and will be posted afterwards in its entirety on Aspen Germany’s YouTube Channel.\n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n
