SUMMARY:Aspen Institute: SustAInability? The Role of Artificial Intelligence for Climate and Environment
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\nThe Aspen Institute Germany and Microsoft Berlin\ncordially invite you to a\nRoundtable Discussion\non the topic\n“SustAInability?\nThe Role of Artificial Intelligence for Climate and Environment”\nwith\nMaik Außendorf\nMdB, Digital Policy Spokesperson,\nParliamentary Group Alliance 90/The Greens\nDr. Marcel Dickow\nHead of Unit Digitalization and Sustainability,\nGerman Environment Agency (UBA)\nDr. Jennifer Pernau\nGovernment Affairs Manager,\nMicrosoft Berlin\nProf. Dr.-Ing. Stephan Ramesohl\nCo-Head of Research Unit Digital Transformation,\nWuppertaler Institute\nmoderated by\nDr. Stormy-Annika Mildner\nExecutive Director,\nAspen Insitute Germany.\n \nAI-supported applications are seen as a promising way to combat the climate crisis, for example by optimizing the effectiveness of resource-intensive processes, pointing out necessary environmental protection measures at an early stage, or identifying untapped potential for CO2 reduction. At the same time, their use is associated with high consumption of electricity and resources, for example in data centers. Particularly in the pressing environmental and climate area, it is clear that the rapid advances in machine learning, computing capacity, and data processing are leading to new challenges, but also to new solutions. It is therefore important to reduce the negative side effects and achieve a positive overall balance between AI and sustainability through savings and complementary measures.\nThe event is part of the “AITech Dialogues: AI for Sustainable and Just Societies ( https://crm.aspeninstitute.de/civicrm/mailing/url?u=1642&qid=1032474 )” series of in-person discussion events that Aspen Germany is hosting in cooperation with Microsoft Berlin to address existing and emerging AI technologies, particularly with regard to ethical considerations of their impact and the governance required.\n \nIt would be a pleasure to welcome you at this Aspen Institute Germany event! If you wish to participate, please click here ( https://crm.aspeninstitute.de/civicrm/mailing/url?u=1643&qid=1032474&cid=31772&cs=3a475dbecbf51cda840105fb6f7b9329_1708965237_2016 ).\n \n \n\n\n\n
